Harbourside House – East Neuk Of Fife

Our client’s property is a Grade B Listed historic harbourside house, traditional to the fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife. The property can be dated as far back as the late 18^th century. The house has been in the family for two generations and is now occupied as a premium holiday let, where discerning guests can enjoy the delights of the East Neuk. Following a detailed window condition survey by www.windowconditionsurveys.co.uk, we were commissioned to replace original timber sash and case windows in the property. We were also tasked with the manufacture of a new replacement external door screen.

The windows were manufactured in a traditionally styled sash and case format, complete with intricate detailing specific to the geographical location, including the integration of sash horns. The timber selected was Accoya; primarily due to the property’s proximity and exposure to harsh weather. This was especially important to the owners who recognised the need for excellent energy performance and moreover the requirement of a long lifespan of the windows for future generations of family ownership. The windows combined the vernacular of historic windows with high energy performance including narrow glazing sightlines, slim astragals and thin double glazing. Finished in a traditional white paint, these were made complete with traditional brass ironmongery and the innovative Sturrock’s concealed vent system.
