The Brief
Our client’s property is a beautiful Victorian villa; boasting all the original features of the period including sandstone façade, bay windows and high ceilings complete with ornate cornicing.
We were commissioned to replace several original timber windows in the property, including the upper bay windows. We were also tasked with the manufacture of a new replacement front door and screen.
The Results
The windows were manufactured in a traditional sash and case format in Accoya; combining the vernacular of historic windows with high energy performance including narrow glazing sightlines, slim astragals and thin double glazing. Finished in a traditional white paint, these were made complete with traditional brass ironmongery and the innovative Sturrock’s concealed vent system.
The magnificent new front entrance door and screen was crafted in a highly detailed style, in-keeping with all the facets of the period. Manufactured in Accoya with Tricoya panels.
Constructed in a traditional multi panel raised and fielded style with dentil transom fanlight all to match existing detail. The door and screen were fully finished (prior to install) in a heritage blue black paint.
Fusing traditional with modern functionality, the ironmongery for the door comprises a Yale Rim lock in a polished brass finish with a beautiful 77mm large octagonal knob internally and externally in unlacquered antique brass finish and complete with a 255mm letterplate in unlacquered antique brass. In addition, brass ball-bearing butt hinges, Exitex threshold weatherbar and Schlegel Aquamac 21 draught-stripping were all incorporated into the door set.
